YouTube has updated its internal systems to be able to directly recognize artificial intelligence-generated content and place tags on it to alert users that this content is generated by artificial intelligence, according to a report by the American technical website TechCrunch.

The platform also intends to change the place where you place the tag to become more prominent so that it will be easier for users to recognize the AI-generated content at first glance.

YouTube now forces content makers to disclose the presence of artificial intelligence-generated content if the content includes scenes that are closer to reality or includes real people or realistic scenes, but modified by artificial intelligence, while uploading the video to the platform from the creators’ tools.

The platform also automatically tags AI-generated clips even if content creators do not report them as AI-generated clips, according to the report.

This does not apply to clips that clearly show fictional scenes, and there is no way to confuse them with real clips.

The update of the platform’s internal systems coincides with Google’s introduction of the “Gemini Omni” artificial intelligence model, which is capable of understanding the various rules of the real world, whether physics or other rules.

The new improvements come against the backdrop of YouTube’s expansion in combating deep fake clips used by various content makers, by allowing all clips published on the platform to be automatically scanned in search of a specific face.

This means that any adult can use their facial image to search for artificial intelligence-generated deepfake clips in any clip added and uploaded to YouTube, anywhere in the world, by anyone.

The platform explained that the artificial intelligence label will not in any way affect the spread of the content and its reach to users, or even its ability to earn money, as these factors remain as they were.

The American “Variety” website report indicates that there is a feature that allows content makers to modify the artificial intelligence generation score if an error occurs on the part of the algorithm, but this does not apply to tools for the platform itself or other Google tools.

Rene Ritchie, head of the editorial department and communication with content creators at YouTube, stated in a video clip on the platform that these changes aim to give viewers a quick context to understand what appears before them in the clip, stressing that the mark will not affect the mechanism of how the algorithm and the platform deal with the clip.

It should be noted that the past months have witnessed the emergence of a new wave of content makers who rely on artificial intelligence tools to generate video clips and benefit from the profit programs found on YouTube.

The main effect of the new tags that YouTube intends to introduce is to distinguish between fake and real clips in a serious step to limit the spread of misinformation.
