FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Wednesday that the high prices of match tickets and the high demand for them in the resale market in the United States justify the prices of tickets for the World Cup scheduled to be held next month.
FIFA received 500 million requests for tickets to the matches of this major event, and media reports last month stated that some tickets for the final match of the tournament, scheduled to be held on July 19 in New Jersey, are on sale for more than two million dollars per ticket.

“If some people offer some final match tickets on the secondary resale market for $2 million, that doesn’t mean the ticket price is $2 million,” Infantino said at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles today.
He added: “This does not mean that anyone will buy these tickets. In fact, if someone buys a ticket for two million dollars, I will personally bring him a hot dog and a Coke to guarantee him a wonderful experience.”
The prices of tickets for the World Cup held in the United States, Canada and Mexico witnessed a noticeable increase compared to the 2022 edition in Qatar. Ticket prices for the final match in July range between $2,030 and $6,370, which is a much higher price than the price of tickets for the final match in Doha, whose prices ranged between $206 and $1,607.
FIFA has received calls from several groups to lower ticket prices, including dozens of US lawmakers.
As a result of negative reactions to the prices, FIFA offered a limited number of tickets, priced at $60, in the upper corners of the stadiums, which are limited in number compared to other categories.
“We are in the most developed entertainment market in the world, so we have to apply market prices,” Infantino said.
“Tickets are allowed to be resold in the United States. If you sell tickets at a very low price, they will be resold for a much higher price,” he added.
He continued: “We have 25 percent of tickets for group stage matches that can be purchased for less than $300. In the United States, you cannot go to watch a university match of a certain level for less than $300. And this is the World Cup.”
