Today, Thursday, Britain raised the level of the “terrorist threat” nationwide to “serious,” indicating that an attack has become very likely, following a stabbing incident described as “anti-Semitic” in north London.
Interior Minister Shabana Mahmoud said that the level was raised from “major” after the attack that occurred in the Golders Green area yesterday, Wednesday, adding that the decision reflects a broader and more escalating threat environment, and not a single incident.
Shabana added, “I know that this matter will raise concern, especially among members of our Jewish community, and today we have increased the funding allocated to protect our Jewish community, and we will do our best to eliminate the scourge of anti-Semitism in our country,” as she put it.
Two people were injured in a stabbing attack carried out by a man yesterday, Wednesday, in a neighborhood inhabited by Jews in north London, according to what British police said.
The head of the British counter-terrorism police declared that the stabbing incident in the Golders Green area of London was a “terrorist act,” while the chief of the Metropolitan Police considered it “horrific violence directed against the Jewish community.”
The police said that they arrested a 45-year-old man, after stopping him using a stun gun, indicating that they are examining all possible motives as part of the investigation.
