Ukraine announced – yesterday evening, Monday – that it summoned the Israeli ambassador to it, Mikhail Brodsky, to a reprimand session on Tuesday morning, in protest against Israel’s reception of a ship that Kiev says is carrying grain from Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sipha said – in an English-language post on “X” – that his country will submit a protest note to the Israeli ambassador, in response to Israel allowing shipments of grain stolen from its territory.

Sibiha warned against undermining relations between the two sides due to “the illegal trade in stolen Ukrainian grain,” criticizing at the same time Israel’s ignoring of previous calls from Ukraine to refrain from receiving ships loaded with shipments of grain stolen from its territory.

He said, “It is difficult to understand Israel’s failure to respond appropriately to Ukraine’s legitimate request regarding a previous ship that transported stolen goods to Haifa,” adding, “Now – after the arrival of another ship of this type in Haifa – we warn Israel against harming our relations.”

Threatening to sue Israel

Earlier, a Ukrainian diplomatic source – who refused to reveal his identity in an interview with Reuters – warned of consequences for relations between Kiev and Tel Aviv if Israel allowed the ship to dock, stressing that “Kiev will take all international diplomatic and legal measures against Israel.”

On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that Kiev “did not provide any evidence to prove its allegations that the grains were stolen,” at the same time accusing the Ukrainian Foreign Minister of “practicing diplomacy through the media and communication platforms.”

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that a Russian ship called “Panormitis” – loaded with grain from Ukrainian territory – arrived last Sunday off the port of Haifa, and that it was awaiting permission to dock to unload the shipment.

Haaretz also revealed an investigation supported by documents, maritime traffic data, and satellite images, stating that “Israel received and unloaded – during the current year – at least 4 Russian ships carrying grains stolen from Ukraine,” which is one of the most prominent grain producers in the world.
