Dozens of people were killed and wounded in Ukraine as a result of a violent wave of Russian attacks, in a field escalation that comes as international efforts to reach an agreement to end the war, which has entered its fifth year, continue to falter.
The governor of the city of Dnipro – located in southeastern Ukraine – Oleksandr Hansa, reported that 8 people were killed and 49 others were injured in the city, which was repeatedly targeted during the ongoing war.
He stated that the city was targeted by multiple attacks on Friday night, causing the collapse of a large part of a residential building, while the same site was subjected to a new attack on Saturday morning while rescue workers were beginning their work, and a later attack in the evening.
According to Hansa, Russia attacked the Dnipro region in batches for more than 20 hours, accusing Moscow of intentionally targeting the city with missiles and drones and bombing residential areas.
In addition, the city’s mayor, Boris Filatov, stated that among the wounded were two children and the deputy mayor, who miraculously escaped being killed.
Also in Ukraine, the governor of the Chernihiv region said that attacks with missiles and drones caused the death of two people and the injury of 7 others in the region located in the north of the country.
For his part, Ivan Fedorov, head of the regional military administration in Zaporozhye, reported that raids targeted the region, killing one person and wounding 4 others who were in a civilian minibus.
For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that Russian forces launched 619 drones and 47 missiles overnight, noting that its forces were able to shoot down 580 drones and 30 missiles.

On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry said that it targeted military, industrial, and energy sites at night in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure.
The Ministry of Defense noted that it carried out a “large-scale strike” on the facilities of the military industrial complex and the energy sector, as well as port infrastructure, stressing that “the objectives of the strike were achieved.”
Ukraine recently intensified its attacks with drones on Russian territory, and authorities in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg said on Saturday that a Ukrainian drone fell on a residential building in the city, resulting in people sustaining minor injuries.
The governor of the Luhansk region, appointed by Russia, said that a Ukrainian drone attack killed 3 residents of a village.
Immediate action
Commenting on the recent Moscow attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his country’s partners, saying, “Every such attack must remind our partners of the necessity of taking immediate and decisive measures, and quickly strengthening our air defenses.”
He added, “It is important that the world does not remain silent in the face of what is happening, and that the war in Iran does not overshadow this Russian war in Europe.”
He stressed the need to continue the pressure on Russia and not stop it for a single day, stressing that “the sanctions imposed on Russia for each of these strikes must not be stopped.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said that Russia “deliberately prolongs its terrorism against our people, and continues to target vital infrastructure and residential buildings.”
