Kyrie Irving (34 years old) posted a picture showing a Palestinian child who was prevented by the Israeli occupation army from going to his school in the West Bank.
Kyrie Irving highlights the suffering of Palestinian children
In the picture, a Palestinian child appeared sitting holding a book, while he looked behind him to see Israeli soldiers standing behind a barbed wire fence.
Residents of the village of Umm al-Khair, located in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, were recently surprised by the closure of the main road leading to a school in a new Israeli escalation targeting the educational process and consolidating geographical separation.
Settlers erected a barbed wire fence blocking the students’ path to the school, which is only about one kilometer away from their place of residence. Although the barrier was erected without a legal permit, the occupation army refused to remove it, thus hindering the students’ access to it for about 50 days.
When children – some as young as five years old – tried to get around the fence, soldiers fired tear gas and sound bombs at them.
Previous positions
This was not the first time that Irving stood in solidarity with the Palestinians. Last February, he attended the NBA All-Star Game wearing a T-shirt bearing the word PRESS, in honor of the journalists covering the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
He also appeared in a television interview before a match in November 2024, wearing a chain bearing the Palestinian flag in the shape of a map of the earth.
A year before that, he attracted attention when he attended a press conference after a match wearing the keffiyeh, which symbolizes Palestinian identity.
