Two people have been shot in San Jose, California.
The shooting took place in the fanzone, where several World Cup matches are shown.
“This incident is being investigated as a murder,” writes the local police.
The incident occurred in San Pedro Square, one of several places in the San Francisco Bay Area where large crowds have gathered to watch World Cup matches on big screens.
The San Francisco Bay Area has hosted five World Cup matches so far. The most recent was played on Wednesday, when the host country USA faced Bosnia in a round of 16 final.
There was no World Cup match being shown at the time of the shooting, Reuters reports.
On platform X, the local police write that one person died on the spot, while the other was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Several streets in the area will be closed while the investigation is underway.
