The three players were injured during the draw between Egypt and Iran (1-1) at the end of the seventh group competitions, at dawn on Saturday.
Salah (34 years old) left the match 11 minutes into the second half, while his teammate Ahmed Fattouh was unable to complete the match after suffering a severe injury and Egypt ended its five substitutions, while Nice defender Abdel Moneim suffered an early injury moments after committing a penalty kick that Iran striker Mehdi Taremi missed.
Coach Hossam Hassan explained after the match that Salah, Egypt’s all-time top scorer in the World Cup, asked to leave due to an injury.
For his part, Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the Egyptian Federation’s Board of Directors and Deputy Head of the Egyptian National Team’s delegation to the United States of America, confirmed that Salah and Mohamed Abdel Moneim will be ready to face Australia.
Abu Zahra said in television statements, “Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdel Moneim will be ready to face Australia, while Hossam Abdel Majeed was ready for the Iran match, but the technical staff preferred to rest him, and the same applies to Hamdi Fathi.”
The Pharaohs qualified for the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time in their history after occupying second place in the group with 5 points after a 1-1 draw with Belgium, a 3-1 win over New Zealand, and a 1-1 draw with Iran as well.
The Egyptian and Australian national teams will meet in Dallas at nine in the evening next Friday (Mecca time).
Mohamed Salah became Egypt’s all-time top scorer in the World Cup by scoring a goal against New Zealand, raising his tally to 3 goals after scoring a goal against both Russia and Saudi Arabia in the World Cup in 2018.
