The National People’s Congress (the Chinese parliament) announced today, Saturday, the expulsion of 13 prominent deputies from this supreme body, which according to official figures includes 2,858 deputies.

The National People’s Congress said in a statement that among the 13 officials included in the expulsion decision were 6 military generals.

Among the generals included in the expulsion order is Xu Xueqiang, who is in charge of equipment development within the Central Military Commission, the powerful body that leads the army.

The reasons for these dismissals were not revealed by Parliament, whose members are appointed and not elected.

On the other hand, the Chinese Anti-Corruption Agency said that it was investigating He Qiliang, Deputy Minister of the Central Administration of Social Work, on suspicion of “serious violations” of the law.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervision Commission said in a statement on Saturday that Qiliang is currently subject to a disciplinary review and supervisory investigation.

For several years, Chinese President Xi Jinping, who also chairs the Central Military Commission, has waged an anti-corruption campaign targeting several prominent military generals.

Notable cases included investigations against the two vice-chairmen of the Central Military Commission, Zhang Yuxia and He Weidong.
