An 85-year-old Swedish man has been detained in Spain after being arrested earlier in June with 4.5 kilos of cocaine in his luggage, Expressen reports with reference to Spanish Telecinco.
The man was on his way from Costa Rica to Brussels when he was stopped at Madrid airport because his luggage tested positive for drugs.
The cocaine was packaged in nine cylinders wrapped in paper.
The police investigation has shown that the man was likely recruited by a drug smuggling network. There is also information that indicates that he has made several trips as a drug courier to other countries.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry confirms to Expressen that a man of the same age was detained in Spain in June and that he “is being given consular support by the embassy in Madrid”.
