Since the moment two violent earthquakes tore apart the tranquility of many cities in Venezuela on Wednesday evening, Venezuelans have been living in difficult circumstances, between displacement, loss, and the search for their stranded loved ones, amid estimates that the death toll may exceed 10,000 people, according to the latest warnings from the US Geological Survey.
The Venezuelan authorities announced on Friday that the death toll had risen to 235 dead and 4,300 injured, while efforts continued to search for survivors under the rubble of buildings that collapsed as a result of the two earthquakes.
Thousands were reported missing from the 7.2 and 7.5 Richter scale earthquakes, among the strongest in Venezuela in more than a century, and were felt across the region.
