Morocco overturned the fourth final edition of the 2022 World Cup, falling behind twice, and achieved an exciting victory over Haiti 4-2 to reserve its ticket to the round of 32 on Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, in the third and final round of the third group competitions within the 2026 World Cup.

Ismail Sibari became the first African player to score in each of his country’s three matches in the group stage in one edition of the World Cup.

Morocco fielded the third-youngest starting lineup (26 years and 66 days) during the first two rounds of the 2026 World Cup, behind Australia (25 years and 88 days) and Côte d’Ivoire (25 years and 333 days).

Morocco surpasses Nigeria twice

Thanks to its four goals against Haiti, Morocco surpassed Nigeria to become the African team with the most goals in the history of the World Cup, with 26 goals compared to 23 goals for Nigeria.

After Achraf Hakimi, Sofiane Rahimi and Yacine Jassim scored their first goals in the World Cup, Morocco now has the largest number of different scorers among African teams in the history of the World Cup (19), surpassing Nigeria (16).

The Moroccan national team achieved its first ever victory in a World Cup match after conceding the first goal, and it also scored four goals in one World Cup match for the first time in its history.

Positive numbers for Haiti

The Haiti national team scored its first goal ever in the first half in the history of its participation in the World Cup, and it was an own goal in the 10th minute of the match. The first half goals equaled the total goals scored by the team in its World Cup history before today’s match.

Haiti is the second CONCACAF team to score against Morocco in a World Cup match, after Canada’s goal during the group stage in the 2022 edition.
