A new report revealed a sharp decline in the number of Americans who give their children the name “Donald,” indicating that the popularity of this name recorded an unprecedented low during the second term of current President Donald Trump.
Data from the US Social Security Authority (SSA) showed that the year 2025 recorded the lowest point in the written history of the popularity of this name, as it ranked only 690th on the list of the most popular names in the United States, according to the British newspaper The Independent.
On the other hand, the name “Liam” topped the list of the most popular male baby names for the year 2025, and the name “Olivia” came at the top of the female names, according to the authority’s data.
It is noteworthy that President Trump was born in 1946, that is, 12 years after the historical peak of his name’s popularity, and the name maintained its place on the list of the 100 most popular names for births until the 1990s.
Thus began the decline of the name’s star
According to a report by the Independent newspaper, the decline of the name “Donald” began even before Trump entered politics, as it fell to 263rd place in the rankings in 2004, the same year in which the television program “The Apprentice”, which Trump was presenting at the time, began airing.
The name then slid to number 489 in 2016, when Trump was elected president for the first time, and continued its sharp decline to reach its current level in Trump’s second term.
Since his return to the White House, Trump has been striving to print his name in bold on monuments in Washington, D.C., despite the issuance of a recent court order requiring his name to be removed from the Kennedy Cultural Center building, after a judge ruled that placing it there was illegal and took place without the approval of Congress.
In early 2026, it was decided to change the name of Palm Beach Airport in Florida to become Donald J. Trump International Airport. Congress is also currently studying a draft law that would push for the president’s image to be printed on a commemorative $250 banknote, despite the existence of a federal law that prohibits placing images of living people on paper currencies.
