Russian officials announced on Wednesday that Ukrainian drone attacks resulted in deaths and damage to facilities and infrastructure in several Russian regions, while Russian raids on Ukraine caused the deaths of civilians and damage to residential property.
Gleb Nikitin, governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region in central Russia, said that two people were killed in an attack by Ukrainian drones. He added that an industrial facility was damaged as a result of the debris of one of the downed drones.
He explained that the damage to the facility was not significant, and he did not reveal its name or the nature of its activity.
The authorities appointed by Moscow in the areas under its control also reported that the city of Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula and parts of the Ukrainian Kherson region witnessed power outages following Ukrainian attacks targeting energy infrastructure.
Mikhail Razvogayev, the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, said that electricity was cut off in the city – the largest city in the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014 – as a result of a Ukrainian attack targeting energy facilities. Razvojayev had previously announced that the city had been attacked by drones.
Razvogayev announced that electric buses in Sevastopol will not operate today, and called on parents to keep their children at home.
In a separate statement, Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-appointed governor of the Kherson region, said that areas under Russian control in the region witnessed a power outage.
In the Russian Orenburg region, located more than a thousand kilometers southeast of Moscow near the border with Kazakhstan, Governor Yevgeny Solntsev said that air defenses shot down drones over an industrial facility.
The Orenburg region includes a number of important industrial facilities, including a gas processing plant and an oil refinery.
In the Russian Belgorod region, adjacent to the Ukrainian border, local authorities announced that a man was killed and a woman was injured as a result of a drone attack.
These developments come at a time when Kiev has intensified its attacks on supply lines and infrastructure linked to the Crimean Peninsula, causing additional pressure on fuel supplies and public services.
Russian attacks
On the other hand, the Ukrainian authorities said that a Russian bombing targeted the city of Balakliya in the east of the country, killing one person on Wednesday.
Local authorities in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine also announced the killing of a 56-year-old woman in a Russian air strike that targeted the city.
The head of the military administration of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinigubov, pointed out that four houses, a store, and an annex building were damaged, in addition to the outbreak of fires at the targeting sites, and said that rescue teams are continuing their work in the area.
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has continued its military operation against Ukraine, in a war that Moscow requires to end on Kiev’s abandonment of joining Western military entities, which Ukraine considers unacceptable interference in its internal affairs.
