Iran’s foreign minister has spoken with a leader of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas about the ongoing negotiations with the United States.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has spoken about “the latest developments” with Basem Naeem, a member of Hamas’ ruling politburo, Iran’s state media reports.

The declaration of intent between the US and Iran on continued peace negotiations does not mention Gaza or Hamas. The ceasefire agreed there is said to cover “all fronts, including in Lebanon”.

Hamas has expressed hope that the agreement will lead to an end to violence also in war-torn Gaza.

In the conversation with Hamas leader Naeem, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi is said to have underlined Iran’s support for the Palestinians “until their legitimate national rights are fully realized”.
