Al-Burhan: We bear the responsibility of protecting citizens and will not allow strife to arise with neighboring countries policy

The President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, pledged to conduct the necessary investigations to uncover the circumstances of the attack on gold prospectors “miners” near the Sudanese-Egyptian border.

During his visit to the “Al-Ratj” area of ​​Halayeb locality in the Red Sea state on the Sudanese-Egyptian border, Al-Burhan called on citizens and miners to be cautious and not to go towards the sensitive border areas in order to avoid causing any problems or frictions, reiterating Sudan’s full respect and appreciation for the neighboring countries in the north and east, and its keenness to stabilize bilateral relations.

The Army Commander stressed that the country’s top priority in this “critical stage” is to confront the current challenges, saying, “The priority now is to confront the enemy, which requires unifying the national ranks and consolidating all efforts to repel any external aggression. We will not allow lurkers to infiltrate among us to stir up strife and sabotage.”

In a related context, Al-Burhan pledged to resolve the security issues, stressing the determination of the government and the army to combat all forms of security chaos in the peripheral areas, to continue campaigns to collect illegal weapons, and to hold accountable anyone proven to be involved in blackmailing citizens or threatening their security and safety.

Al-Burhan’s visit and his brief statements come in the wake of a state of tension that prevailed in Sudanese circles, following frequent news and reports about groups of Sudanese gold prospectors (traditional miners) being targeted, prosecuted, and arrests and seizures were carried out in the rugged border areas between Sudan and Egypt.

The random mining areas in the Red Sea State and the areas adjacent to the northern and eastern borders constitute a hotbed of activity for thousands of Sudanese youth, but they have recently turned into high-risk security contact areas, which prompted the Sudanese leadership to intervene on the ground to calm the situation and broadcast reassuring messages to the interior, with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of relations with neighboring countries.
