Tonight, Norway collides with Senegal outside New York.
Then the city’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, comes with a warning.
– No destination is worth risking your safety, he says in a statement.
The reason is the stormy weather that is forecast to move in over New York and New Jersey during Monday evening (local time).

Warning of flooding

And now New York City Emergency Management has also issued both a travel warning and a flood warning for the area.
“Showers and potentially high-moisture thunderstorms are expected to move through the area. These showers have the potential to produce up to about 5 centimeters of rainfall per hour. These amounts could lead to flooding, primarily in urban areas and areas with poor drainage.”, they write.
Mamdani therefore calls for extra caution.
– I urge everyone to plan well in advance and give yourselves extra time to travel safely, he says.
Can be interrupted and resumed
Fifa does not have its own guidelines for how matches should be handled in the event of thunder or lightning, but has the right to cancel matches in the event of security risks. In such cases, the match must be restarted the same minute as the match.
At the same time, New York City Emergency Management believes that the match should be canceled if lightning strikes within 13 kilometers of the arena.
Kick-off between Norway and Senegal is at 02:00 on Tuesday night (Swedish time). Norway already have three points collected after the win against Iraq while Senegal lost their opener against France.
