An emergency meeting on the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is planned to be held during the first day of US-Iran talks in Switzerland, sources told CBS.
After the planned negotiations were abruptly canceled on Friday, the parties look set to make another attempt on Sunday. An Iranian delegation has recently arrived in Switzerland, and US Vice President JD Vance has been on his way to the Alpine country during the night.
Diplomatic sources now tell CBS that the conflict between Israel and the Iranian-backed Shia militia Hezbollah has been put as the first item on the agenda.
For several months, Israel has directed attacks against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The militia is supported by Iran, which has demanded an end to the attacks.
The country said as late as Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed again in response to the Israeli attacks.
Later that day, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health announced that seven people had been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Neither Lebanon, Israel nor Hezbollah are participating in the talks, which mediator Pakistan has said will begin on Sunday.
