Norway opens a consulate general in Nuuk. The decision is described as part of the Arctic NATO countries’ new strategy.
The Norwegian mission in Greenland is being established to strengthen cooperation with Greenlandic authorities, states Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) at a press conference on Friday.

According to Støre, the seven Arctic countries in NATO – Norway, Sweden, Denmark (through Greenland), Canada, the USA, Finland and Iceland – have drawn up a new strategy regarding the Arctic. He emphasizes the strategic importance of the Arctic and the northern areas for Norway.
The announcement comes at a time of increased focus on security in the Arctic, since US President Donald Trump said he wanted to take over control of Greenland from Denmark.
