Elisabeth Marmorstein and Fouad Youcefi lead the final debate in SVT before the 2026 parliamentary election, which is broadcast from Gävle.

For the first time this year, SVT’s big final debate before the parliamentary elections will not be broadcast from Stockholm.

– Our ambition is to reflect the whole of Sweden, says SVT’s program director Michael Kucera to TT.

SVT’s big debate with the party leaders and mouthpieces two days before the election has been the culmination of the election campaign since television’s infancy – and has always been broadcast from Stockholm.

That won’t be the case this year. This year’s edition will be broadcast live on September 11, two days before the election, from – Gable. With Elizabeth Marmorstein and Fouad Youcefi as presenter.

– What we do with large parts of the heaviest election programs is that we move them out of the TV house, says Michael Kuceraprogram manager for SVT’s social programs.

New for this year is that the traditional hearings of the party leaders also take place in their hometowns. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) is asked, for example, in Strängnäs while Magdalena Andersson (S) and Ebba Busch (KD) can answer questions at home in Uppsala.

The hearings were postponed for the third election in a row Anders Holmberg and Camilla Kvartoft. They handled that assignment in SVT before the parliamentary elections in both 2018 and 2022.

TV4 is also betting on a kind of election tour where “Efter fem” in early September is broadcast from different parts of Sweden. The channel is also launching a new interview format, “Vem kan steyr Mauri?”, where the presenter Mauri Hermundsson meets the party leaders and asks questions while he “practices” with them.
