SMHI extends its yellow warnings for thunderstorms on Midsummer’s Day, which now also cover the entire Norrland coast and large parts of the interior.

The warning for strong thunder and large amounts of rain locally, which extends up to Haparanda, applies from 16:00 to 23:00 on Saturday.

According to SMHI, it is difficult to specify where the thunder strikes the worst, but in the entire area covered by warnings, a warm and moist air mass sweeps in from the south.

– In this warm and moist air mass, there is a risk that thunder clouds can form quite easily. Locally, it can bring torrential rain and lightning, says Erik Höjgård-Olsen, meteorologist at SMHI.

SMHI warns, among other things, of the risk of flooding and disturbances in the electricity and telecommunications network.

Previously, a yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms on Midsummer’s Day for Götaland, large parts of Svealand and southeasternmost Norrland.
