During the night, Israel went on the offensive in southern Lebanon. At least 16 people have been killed, the state-run Lebanese NNA reports.

Israel’s military claims the attacks are a response to Hezbollah’s “repeated violations” of the ceasefire. The Shiami militia, in turn, states that there are intense clashes in the area, AP writes.

Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon and continued attacks on Iran-backed Hezbollah have been one of the biggest stumbling blocks in negotiations to reach an agreement between the US and Iran.

In parallel with the new attacks, Switzerland, where further talks between the parties would have started on Friday, announces that today’s negotiations are suspended.

According to the pro-Iranian, Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese news agency al-Mayadeen, Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon are the reason Iran is waiting to send its delegation to Switzerland.
