The extent of sexual abuse in institutions and in custody must be analysed, states the Prison Service.
The announcement comes after Arbetets and Sekotidningen’s disclosure of repeated sexual abuse between inmates.
– It is important that the Probation Service takes this very seriously, as evidenced by the assignment directive, says Christer Hallqvist, chairman of the Seko union within the Probation Service to the newspapers.
Kenneth Holm, director of security in the Correctional Service, says that an analysis from 2024 showed an increase in reported incidents – but it did not lead to changed working methods or new routines.
“The purpose (of the new analysis) is to get an updated picture of how serious the situation is and what the authority can do to reduce the risks,” he says in a press release.
