Former celebrated Danish chef René Redzepi admits he behaved badly, but not that he has used the violence against employees he has been accused of.
– I know I have been an idiot, he says.
In March, Redzepi left his creation, the restaurant Noma, after 35 former employees came forward and accused him of violence and bullying – almost all of whom stated that it was routine to be subjected to violence.
– I know I’ve been an idiot, pushed people and screamed, he tells Berlingske, but he doesn’t want to feel the violence.
– I don’t see it that way, but I understand that there are those who have experienced it that way.
When Noma, which closed in Copenhagen in 2024, reopens in August, it will be without Rezepi as head chef and active in the day-to-day operations. Instead, he becomes creative director.
