The shirt of the legendary Brazilian Pele, which he wore in his first World Cup in 1958, will be on a date with achieving fantastic numbers in the history of electronic auctions, after Sotheby’s Auction House announced on Tuesday that the No. 10 shirt will be offered for sale at auction in the period between June 29 and July 16, which coincides with the fans’ preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
A football historical piece that recalls Brazil’s first world title in 1958. It also bears the first participation of Brazilian legend Pele at the age of 17. He wore this shirt in the final round and scored a brace with it against Sweden, the host of the tournament. He contributed to Samba’s victory by five goals to two, in the match hosted by Rasunda Stadium in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

Until now, the late No. 10 still holds the title of youngest scorer in a World Cup final, just as the family of his colleague Didi kept his shirt for years, before it was displayed in a Brazilian museum and then sold to its current owner, whose identity has not been revealed since 2004, in a deal whose value has not yet been announced.
Pele, who died in December 2022 at the age of 82, had gifted the shirt with which he played in the 1958 World Cup final in Sweden to his teammate Didi, who was also his roommate.
According to expectations, the value of Pele’s shirt is expected to exceed $6 million, to be among the most expensive pieces in history, as the record was set by the Argentine shirt, “Maradona,” which he wore on June 22, 1986 in Mexico City during the historic quarter-final against England, in which Argentina won 2-1, with the contribution of Maradona’s famous hand goal.
The Pele shirt will be located at Sotheby’s new headquarters in Manhattan, United States, until the end of the online auction on July 16.
