US President Donald Trump said that his country does not need an agreement with Iran to obtain its enriched uranium, stressing that Washington can access it now.
Trump – in statements to reporters at the White House – downplayed Iran’s ability to prevent Washington from doing so, saying, “I don’t think they can stop us if we want.”
But Trump returned to saying that “there is no need for that,” under the pretext that the enriched uranium is “buried,” referring to the fact that its locations were bombed during the past forty-day war.
He revealed that his country is monitoring Iranian nuclear sites from space, threatening to deal with anyone who approaches them, threatening to launch new attacks on Iran.
Trump continued, “We discussed sending special forces to take nuclear materials from Iran, but I did not want to find myself in a situation similar to that of Jimmy Carter.”
He explained that his country did not proceed with the transfer of Iranian nuclear materials because it would have required a presence for a week or two within a conflict zone.
Trump repeated again that the Iranians will never obtain a nuclear weapon, pointing out that Washington has done a good job with regard to Iran, as the essence of the agreement is that it will not possess a nuclear weapon, he said.
Trump expressed his confidence that his country will inevitably prevail and win the war, either through negotiations with Iran or in another way, explaining that he does not seek to meet Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, but he said that this is possible if an agreement is reached.
Trump believes that the most important points of the agreement with Iran are that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened immediately.
Regarding the possibility of a return to war, Trump said that if Iran killed American soldiers, that would be a very good reason to resume military operations.
Regarding the Lebanese file, the American President said that it is somewhat different but linked to Iran, adding, “Hezbollah contacted us and said: What do you think about stopping the fighting?”
He continued, “I spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah, and I believe that progress has been made in this decades-long conflict,” stressing that Lebanon deserves peace.
