Andreas Almgren likes that the national football team trains in the warm-up chamber before the WC.

But it is not very worthwhile for Alexander Isak & Co to only do it once or twice, says the athletics star.

– Before the WC last year, I drove 20 passes in a month, he says.

It was yesterday that the national team told that they training in the heating chamber on Bosöncalled the torture chamber of the track and field star Andreas Almgrento prepare for the heat of the World Cup.

Half the squad rode exercise bikes there on Wednesday and on Saturday it is time for the other half.

Possibly there will be one more time for the players in the warming chamber, if there is time next week between the matches, the national team management announces.

– It is absolutely good to prepare for the heat as much as possible. If you have not done any warm-up training and then have to perform in hot conditions, you will suffer, says Andreas Almgren to Sportbladet.

“Won’t make much of an impact”

But once (or twice) is never once, if the long-distance runner who has a lot of experience with this type of training is to be believed.

– It is not enough that you do it once. If you’re really going to get an effect, you have to do it quite a few times over a period of time. Before the Tokyo WC last year, I rode at least four times a week for five weeks. Maybe they don’t need to drive that much and it’s not practically possible for 26 players to drive four times a week for a month. But just doing it once is not enough. It won’t have much effect. After all, they have the base in Dallas and then they will get an effect from just being there before they have to play, he says and continues:

– When I did the warm-up training last year, it was very important to be able to do the best possible training on site in Tokyo before the WC.

It gave results. Almgren took a sensational WC bronze in the 10,000 meters.

Have met Karlström many times

Andreas Almgren was himself a promising soccer player before he chose athletics as an 18-year-old. He played in AIK with Anton Salétros and even got to train with the A team a few times.

The 30-year-old will see as many World Cup games as he can, even if night games mean it for a world-class track and field athlete in the middle of the season.

Do you have a favorite player in the Swedish WC team?

– I met Jesper Karlström at the time I was playing and he was in BP. So I hold on to him a little extra. And may I say one more, it’s Mattias Svanberg who is the son of my manager (Stina Funke) – and so everyone with an AIK connection (laughs).

Almgren believes that France will win the World Cup.

How far does Sweden go then?

– I think you should move on from the group in any case, says Almgren.
