A hen farm has been built at Harpsund at the request of the prime minister’s wife Birgitta Ed. High-ranking officials were drawn into the project and the bill partly ended up with the taxpayers, writes Expressen.
Now it is announced that the Prime Minister must pay all invoices for the chicken farm.
“Chickens on Harpsund! Hooray!”, writes Ulf Kristersson’s wife Birgitta Ed in an email to two senior managers at the government office and the State Property Agency (SFV), which manages the prime minister’s recreational and representative residence Harpsund.
Then her wish to have summer hens at Harpsund has been blocked after many email conversations.
The Prime Minister couple is responsible for the purchase of chicken houses and overhead costs for the chickens. But the cost of installation of SEK 16,691 ends up at the government office.
After the newspaper asked questions about the invoice, Kristersson’s press manager announced that the Prime Minister couple did not know about it, but will now pay the full amount. The whole idea must have been that the chicken farm would be the family’s contribution to Harpsund.
Other emails between the government office and SFV are about Ed’s idea to produce labels for apple must from the farm, which never materializes, and beekeeping. But SFV draws a line there.
The authority writes that it is difficult to see that it is part of the mission to provide bees: “After we received an answer from our company lawyer, we are very doubtful whether we at SFV will handle bees and the production of honey”.
Last spring, Expressen reported on how the Prime Minister couple’s wishes for tenant adaptation of Sagerska Huset resulted in high consulting costs when furnishings were purchased. For example, the purchase of a bread shovel was invoiced for SEK 2,300, pillows for just over SEK 30,000 and a kitchen rug for SEK 27,400.
