Al-Dhalea Governorate in Yemen turned a painful page after announcing the death of the young man, Al-Qaqaa Antar Al-Absi, 30 years old, who was known as “Yemen’s Spider-Man.” This death came after he fell into the Damt volcanic terrain while demonstrating his climbing skills, which sparked a state of deep sadness among his fans.

Al-Qaqaa used to repeatedly climb and descend into the depths of the steep volcanic crater, and on Friday, during one of his usual walks near the hot waters inside the crater, his foot slipped and he fell to a depth estimated at 31 metres.

An eyewitness reported that the young man fell on his back and head, and suffered bleeding from his ears and face. After strenuous efforts that lasted two days, civil defense crews succeeded in recovering his body with the help of a group of divers.

Al-Qaqaa was famous for his superior ability to climb rugged rocky slopes and cling to rocks without the use of assistive equipment, as he accomplished his movements with exceptional skill and extreme speed.

In addition to his skills, the deceased was loved by people because he harnessed his abilities to save citizens’ sheep that were stuck in the crater, and these shows and adventures formed the source of income on which he relied in his life, according to what the Yemeni platforms reported.

The incident sparked a wide wave of sympathy and opened the door to discussion about the lack of safety measures.

In this context, preacher Fares Ayed addressed an appeal to the competent authorities to prevent spectacle movements in the crater to avoid fatal accidents in the future, and asked followers to stop encouraging young people to undertake dangerous adventures in exchange for garnering views.

For his part, Omani blogger Nasr al-Busaidi expressed his sadness over the death of the brave Yemeni young man, and pointed out that the hobby that represented a source of livelihood for him became the cause of his death. In the same context, local news sites confirmed that the story of the young man whose name was linked to the crater for several years ended in a tragic scene, and called on the authorities to establish controls that protect visitors and amateurs.

In a solemn farewell, hundreds of people from the region carried the body of the young man to his final resting place, in a funeral that witnessed the presence of large crowds of his fans. An atmosphere of sadness prevailed over the funeral ceremony, and palms were raised in prayer for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.

Haradh Damt, located in the north of Al Dhalea Governorate, is considered one of the most prominent natural landmarks. It is an extinct volcanic crater containing hot water. This area is characterized by steep rocky terrain, making it an extremely dangerous area that lacks appropriate means of insurance and protection.
