Lindborg started the EC in Albania strongly with three dominant victories before she fell in an exciting semi-final against Norwegian Olympic third-place finisher Grace Bullen yesterday.
In Friday’s bronze match (in the 62-kilogram class) there was another loss – after a bloody match where Lindborg clashed with Bilyana Dudova.
The Swede began to bleed profusely and was re-plastered with bandages that covered large parts of his face.
– First she cracked her eyebrow, it was five centimeters open, and the second time the hit takes the middle of the head. It wasn’t terribly ugly, and certainly not on purpose, but it affects the match, says national team manager Zakarias Tallroth.
Reassuring message: “No danger with me”
An emotional Lindborg was in tears after the missed medal.
– I am not here to see and learn. I wanted to medal and I’ve beaten her before. So it feels very heavy, she tells SVT Sport.
Although the match, which ended 1–3, became a bloody story, she gives reassuring information afterwards.
– There is no danger with me. There are doctors here on site to help us. We had to glue the eyebrow, but I don’t think I have a concussion. It feels the most sad to lose.
The Swede went on the offensive in the final stages of the match and was close to scoring a match-deciding attack.
– I chase and chase and then I get hold of her foot and should secure the point, but then I miss and it becomes decisive. I knew it would be a tough match, but it still feels heavy.
