TJ Lanning is dead.
The former American alpine skier turned 41 years old.
“His importance to our sport extended far beyond his time as an active competitive racer,” writes the US Ski Association.
Lanning was active in the early 2000s and has skied for the US national ski team during the WC in Åre in 2007.
Yesterday, Wednesday, the news came that he had died. The association does not state a cause of death.
“Our thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time“, writes the American Ski Association in a post on Instagram.
In the comments section, he is supported by several skiing profiles, including Pernilla Wiberg and Mikaela Shiffrin.
Due to recurring injuries, Lanning’s career came to an abrupt end in 2009, following a crash in Lake Louise. Lanning lost control, crashed, and suffered a broken neck and extensive knee damage. After his active career, Lanning instead worked as a coach for the United States National Ski Team.
