Setback for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Big star Connor Bedard has had surgery.
The 20-year-old will be gone for four months.
It was during a training session that the accident happened, reports say The Athletic.
The star reportedly fell and injured his left shoulder, and on Wednesday he underwent surgery.
“We expect him to be fully recovered in about four months”Chicago team doctor Michael Terry said in a statement.
The NHL season starts in early October. As a result, Bedard will miss several games in the beginning.
Previous shoulder problems
Bedard went first overall in the 2023 NHL draft and was named rookie of the year the following season.
The 20-year-old’s rookie contract expired at the end of June. He is thus a restricted free agent and has not yet signed a new contract with the Blackhawks.
In his third season in the world’s best hockey league, Bedard took off and scored 75 points (30+45) in 69 games. But just before Christmas he injured his right shoulder in connection with a signing against the St Louis Blues and missed several games.
Chicago also has the Swedish talent Anton Frondell, who was drafted as the third player in the 2025 draft.
