The head coach of the Mexican national football team, Javier Aguirre, announced his resignation from his position after the dramatic 2-3 loss to the England national team, which played with ten players, in the round of 16 in the World Cup.
With this decision, which was planned in advance, Aguirre ended his third term with the Mexican national team.

Aguirre said: “I say goodbye to football, I say goodbye to Estadio Azteca. I leave with pride.”
Aguirre took over as coach of the Mexican national team for the first time in 2011, and continued in his position for a year. His second term ran from April 2009 to the end of June 2010. His third term began in the summer of 2024.
Rafael Marquez will coach the Mexican national team after being part of the technical staff for two years.
“I told him he could always count on me,” Aguirre said.
