On Monday, Qatar and Ireland discussed diplomatic efforts made to enhance security and stability in the region after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani received Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense Helen McEntee, who is visiting the country.
She added that the meeting reviewed the cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them, and discussed the latest regional developments, after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
Following the meeting, the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding regarding establishing political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and Ireland.
The memorandum was signed on the Qatari side by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and on the Irish side by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence.
In June 2026, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding stipulating the cessation of fighting, the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington and Tehran are still engaged in rounds of negotiations to discuss ways to implement the memorandum of understanding between them, the last of which was in the capital, Doha, on June 30, where an Iranian delegation held meetings with mediators from Qatar and Pakistan, and American envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met with Qatari officials in Doha.
