In its latest steps to expand the uses of artificial intelligence, the American company Meta has quietly launched a new application called “Pocket” that allows users to create mini games and interactive experiences simply by writing text commands, in a step that reflects the company’s trend towards what is known as “Vibe Coding”, which relies on artificial intelligence to generate applications and games without the need to write any software code.

The launch of the application came without an official announcement from Meta, as it first appeared on the Google Play and App Store stores, before attracting the attention of application features researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, who published pictures of it on the “X” platform. App Figures data indicates that the application has been available in stores since June 29, but the company has not yet revealed its launch schedule or the markets it will reach.

Games created from one sentence

Pocket is based on a simple idea; The user describes the game or experience they want in natural language, while the AI creates a playable experience within moments.

Meta calls these experiences “Gizmos,” and describes them as “interactive, playable experiences generated by artificial intelligence.” The role of the application is not limited to creating them, but also provides a social platform to review what other users design, play it, re-edit it, and share it again.

According to the description published on the Google Play Store, these experiences are not limited to simple drawings, but can respond to touching the screen, benefit from the movement of the phone, play sound effects and music, and use the camera or images stored on the device, while some models can “infer the surrounding world” using artificial intelligence capabilities.

The result of a previous acquisition

“Pocket” does not represent a project that started from scratch within Meta, as it is directly related to the company’s acquisition earlier this year of the Atma Sciences team, which developed the “Gizmo” application, which was founded by former engineers at Snap.

The Gizmo application presented almost the same idea, which was to create games and interactive experiences based on text commands, and it succeeded in attracting hundreds of thousands of users before its team moved to Meta. App Figures data indicates that the application recorded about 635,000 downloads on Android and iOS, with a satisfaction rate of 98%, while the original application is still available in application stores to date.

Artificial intelligence as a social platform

The application reflects the vision of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has repeatedly spoken about a future in which artificial intelligence applications become social platforms in themselves, not just digital assistants.

During the past months, Meta has intensified its investments in this direction, launching its independent application “Meta AI”, adding tools for creating images and videos with artificial intelligence, and also integrating the advantages of artificial intelligence into its various applications, including Facebook and Instagram, in addition to the video editing application “Edits”. “Pocket” comes as an extension of this trend, but with a greater focus on interactive content and games that users create themselves.

Limited launch and trial under testing

Although the application appears in app stores, access to it is still limited. Meta’s support page confirms that “Pocket” is not available in all regions, and that some of its features may not even be available in the countries it reaches.

It is noteworthy that the application was not downloadable in the United States of America at the time the news was monitored, whether through the Google Play Store or the App Store, which suggests that Meta is still testing the service on a limited scale before launching it globally. The company also did not respond to requests for comment regarding when it will expand its availability or its future plans for it.
