Here are today’s tennis highlights.
Naomi Osaka, 28, wins against Aryna Sabalenka in Wimbledon’s round of 16 – the world number one is thus out of the tournament.

The summer of 2026 is not one that the Belarusian wants to remember.

And now – almost exactly a month later – she’s knocked out of Wimbledon.

“I am very grateful”
After Sabalenka won the first game of the match, Osaka grabbed the baton and had no plans to let it go.
However, the world number one came back in the second set, but the longer the 14th-ranked Osaka managed to hold out – the more Sabalenka lost both her temper and her game.
– It was a really fun match and I am very grateful. Even if I lost it would have been a great match. It’s the first match I’ve won on this course. It means a lot, says Osaka in Eurosport’s broadcast.
Thank the mother
The two players have previously met each other three times this year, with the Japanese losing all of them, but now succeeded in overturning the Belarusian.
After the win, she sent a special thank you to her mother who was sitting in the stands.
– She cooks a lot and I feel that her food gives me strength. So mom I would have really appreciated another goal tonight.
Osaka is already a two-time champion in both the US Open and the Australian Open, but after her last grand slam win in 2021, her career has been marked by several breaks from tennis for various reasons.
The Japanese will now face Karolina Muchkova in the quarterfinals. As Sabalenka has further two title favorites out of the tournamentworld number two Jelena Rybakina and world number three Iga Swiatek.
