Eddie Nestor will taking time to focus on his treatment
BBC Radio London presenter Eddie Nestor has announced he will be stepping away from his role after being diagnosed with cancer.
In a post on social media, Nestor told listeners they may have noticed he had “been a little quieter than usual”, as he confirmed he would be away from the station for a period while receiving treatment.
He said he had spent both Father’s Day and his birthday in hospital, but has since had his first chemotherapy session, thanks to an “incredible medical team”.
The 62-year-old added: “We’re thankful, we’re hopeful and as a family, we’re looking upward and forward.”
In the post, he said his “greatest source of strength” was his family, and thanked his BBC colleagues for their “love and support”.
“I honestly don’t know exactly what the next few months will look like.
“I’ll work when I’m able, post when I feel like it and spend the rest of the time concentrating on getting stronger,” Nestor said.
His show is currently being covered by Jim Davis and other members of the BBC Radio London team in his absence.

Nestor, who was awarded an MBE in 2018 for his charity work and services to radio, has been a presenter on BBC Radio London since 2002.
He has also appeared in television dramas, including Casualty and Death in Paradise.
