UP SALE. Felicia Schröder, 19, played her last Women’s All-Svenskan match as a BK Häcken player.
Meanwhile, Laney Matriano, 22, made her final match as a single.
– It feels absolutely fantastic, she tells Sportbladet.
The groom is none other than NFL star Emeka Egbuka, who plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
– It is fantastic to have someone who is also involved in elite sports. We know how to push each other and we understand each other very well. It is of course difficult that we live so far apart, but we have done it for a long time and it is fantastic that we have each other. We learn and grow together, says Matriano.
The wedding will take place this week, when they are both free from their otherwise busy schedules. The last few months have therefore been hectic to say the least for Laney, who has had to devote almost all of her free time to planning the wedding.
– We booked it somewhat spontaneously in March when we saw that we were both free. It’s going to be incredible fun but it’s been a lot to fix, but it will be worth it.
Marrying at home
The wedding will take place in Ohio.
– I grew up there and he went to college there so it fits well. We will have a lot of friends and family at the wedding and have a nice little trip planned after that before I come back in mid-July, she says and continues:
– I’m a little nervous about standing in front of everyone because all eyes will be on me, but all the people I love are there, so it should probably go well regardless of what happens.
Shouldn’t you be used to a lot of stares as an elite soccer player?
– In a way, yes. I also grew up in a large family, she says with a laugh.
BK Häcken ended the spring season with a 3–2 win against IK Uppsala after a lot of confusion before the match. The match was Felicia Schröder’s last in Hisingsklubben before her record transfer to Real Madrid. The 19-year-old sat on the bench for the entire clash while Matriano played 60 minutes.
