Pictures published by the Syrian News Agency revealed that the Israeli occupation forces left a mobile phone lying on the ground, after they withdrew from Tal Al-Mughr in the western countryside of Daraa after their incursion into the region last Sunday.
The event, which began fleetingly, quickly captured the attention of media circles inside Israel, reflecting the extent of the escalating tension and popular confrontations that accompany the ongoing Israeli incursions into southern Syria.
Secret technology
Israeli media reported that Syrian residents had found a secret military phone carrying highly confidential information. According to the Israeli occupation army’s website, the device was an “Olar” type smartphone, which was converted for purely military use a few years ago as an alternative to paper maps.
Although the device is not connected to the Internet to avoid hacking, it contains accurate digital maps, navigation programs within “enemy” territory, and systems for managing tactical operations.

The Israeli occupation army spokesman responded to this loophole, stressing that “the incident is known and under investigation, and is being dealt with through the relevant channels.”
Chaotic withdrawal
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reveals that the loss of the phone was not just an individual mistake, but rather the result of a chaotic retreat under the pressure of Syrian popular anger.
According to the testimony of an Israeli reserve soldier, the events began with crowds of angry civilians approaching the Israeli forces stationed near the Kudna hill point.
The soldier added: “The forces were forced to retreat back, and under the cover of chaos and confusion, one of the fighters lost his device, which contains a huge amount of secure information and maps.”
The soldier confirmed that the military command quickly turned off the phone remotely to reduce the extent of the damage. On the other hand, Syrians circulated pictures of the stones used to expel the force, accompanied by comments confirming that “this land does not give the invaders a safe passage, and the passage will not pass without resistance.”
Technical and operational specifications
Returning to the technical details, the “Olar” device (a multi-use network device) is considered a digital revolution within the ranks of the Israeli occupation army since it was introduced into service in 2022. The device, in essence, is a smart phone that has been modified to suit purely military use, as it has been completely separated from traditional communication networks to ensure information security and prevent any potential cyber intrusions.
On the operational level, this device ends the era of paper maps and compasses, as it provides faction leaders and field units with high-accuracy digital maps that can be updated at any moment.
The device also includes intelligent navigation software that allows directing forces within enemy territory during ground maneuvers, in addition to advanced systems for managing safety and tactical routines.
This system was developed through joint cooperation between the Field Intelligence Department and the Communications and Cyber Defense Authority, to be an effective tool in directing fire, managing battles, and saving time and resources, while keeping printed maps as a backup alternative in times of emergency only.
Continuous incursions
The phone loss incident comes in the context of a noticeable Israeli escalation in the western countryside of Daraa. Syrian field reports reported that an Israeli force consisting of 6 vehicles penetrated towards Wadi al-Raqqad and reached the village of Jamla, coinciding with the deployment of snipers in Tallet al-Mughr and the firing of heavy machine-gun fire towards agricultural lands.
The Israeli occupation army spokesman justified these moves by claiming the elimination of a number of militants, stressing the continuation of operations in the “security zone,” while the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli attacks represented in incursions into Syrian territory, especially in the Quneitra and Daraa governorates, targeting the area with artillery shells and terrorizing civilians.
The Israeli occupation forces continue their repeated violations in southern Syria, in continuous violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, through repeated incursions and attacks on citizens through raids, arbitrary arrests, destruction of property, and bulldozing of agricultural lands.
