Former national team captain Hong Myung-Bo, 57, has received death threats.
When South Korea lands after the World Cup, the team will therefore be met by 160 police, reports The Herald Business.
The plan for the greatly increased security comes after several threatening posts and an anonymous death threat directed at Hong Myung-Bo.
A person threatened to go to Incheon Airport when the national team returns to South Korea to kill Myung-Bo.
Therefore, 160 police officers from the task force and the airport police are expected to be deployed at Incheon Airport. In addition, 25 security guards will be on site to intervene in the event of any incidents.
– We have decided to deploy the police to prevent security incidents that may arise in connection with the team’s arrival. If any illegal actions, such as thrown objects, occur, we will act with full force, the police spokesperson told The Herald Business.
Already resigned
South Korea’s national team has received a lot of criticism after the World Cup fiasco, and Myung-Bo is the one who has been criticized the most. South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung was out swinging at X and before the national team had time to leave the host nation Mexico, Myung-Bo resigned as national team captain.
The World Cup adventure ended after losses against South Africa and Mexico and a victory in the opener against the Czech Republic.
