Tennis star Serena Williams, 44, makes a sensational comeback at Wimbledon.

She is praised by Lindsey Vonn, 41.

– She is GOAT – regardless of what happens, the alpine star tells AP.

On Monday night, Williams makes a comeback in singles at Wimbledon, after receiving the last wild card.

The tennis icon recently made a comeback after a four-year hiatus. Later this week, she steps into the doubles tournament together with sister Venus Williams.

– There is an increasingly large change in what women can achieve later in their careers or lives, says Lindsey Vonn to AP and continues:

– I feel we are in the same boat, where we don’t have to prove anything to anyone but we still have the ability to compete at an elite level.

“Meaningful to me”

Lindesy Vonn, who is the world’s leading downhill skier on both the men’s and women’s side, crashed badly during the Olympics in Milan/Cortina earlier this year when she competed with a torn cruciate ligament. After the crash, the American underwent several operations for fractures of the tibia and calf, which almost led to amputation.

Despite that, the 41-year-old has not closed the door on a comeback.

– She told me that I played a role in inspiring her (Williams) to come back, so of course that was significant to me, says Vonn.

Serena Williams faces Australian Maya Joint at 5.20pm on Monday night.
