On Monday, Qatar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia called for an end to the Israeli incursions into the Quneitra and Daraa governorates in southern Syria, and called on the international community to intervene and assume its responsibilities.
This came in separate statements issued by the foreign ministries of Qatar, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, during which the three countries called for respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and demanded an end to the Israeli attacks on it.
In its statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli incursion into the Quneitra and Daraa governorates in Syria, and the accompanying artillery bombardment that targeted a number of areas, and considered the attack a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, and a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
She stressed that the continuation of these dangerous Israeli attacks would exacerbate tension in the region and undermine efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, deter Israel, force it to comply with international law, and hold it accountable for its crimes and repeated attacks.
It also renewed the State of Qatar’s full solidarity with Syria, and affirmed its firm position in support of Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and everything that would achieve security and stability for its people.
In turn, Saudi Arabia condemned, in a statement by its Foreign Ministry, the Israeli occupation authorities’ continued violations in the region, the latest of which is the incursions into Syrian territory and the targeting of the Quneitra and Daraa governorates with artillery shells.
It expressed its complete rejection of the intimidation of safe civilians by the Israeli occupation forces and the violation of international laws and norms.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, the most recent of which were the incursions into the Quneitra and Daraa governorates, and the targeting of the region with artillery shells.
Israeli attacks
On Sunday evening, Israeli occupation artillery bombed the village of Abdeen in the western countryside of Daraa in southern Syria, after an earlier incursion into the Yarmouk Basin area.
The Israeli army opened fire on civilians in Daraa Governorate, and targeted a village with artillery shells, simultaneously with aircraft flying overhead.
Later in the day, Al Jazeera correspondent Montaser Abu Nabout reported that calm had returned to the village of Abdeen in the Yarmouk Basin in the western countryside of Daraa, after a day of tension following the incursion of the Israeli occupation forces near the village.
The reporter said that the people who left their homes yesterday began to return to them gradually after the occupation forces withdrew from Mughar Hill, where they were stationed for hours and then withdrew from the site.
He added that the incursion that took place yesterday in this village located on the border of the occupied Syrian Golan was the first of its kind carried out by the occupation forces during the day, noting that previous incursions had occurred during the night.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent pointed out that some skirmishes took place with stones with the invading force, and said that the residents closed the road between the village and Wadi Yarmouk, which the occupation forces take whenever they penetrate the area.
On Friday, Israeli forces entered villages in the countryside of Daraa Governorate and Quneitra Governorate in Syria, and raided and searched a number of homes.
These developments coincide with the continuation of Israeli violations inside Syrian territory, which have escalated in recent months, and have included raids and searches of civilian homes, and the establishment of checkpoints and arrests of civilians, including farmers and children.
After the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, Israel announced the collapse of the Separation of Forces Agreement signed in 1974, and took control of the Syrian buffer zone.
