Tweeters on social media interacted with a video clip that went viral, showing veiled girls at their graduation ceremony from a kindergarten in the American state of Minnesota. The clip, which US President Donald Trump reposted on the “Truth Social” platform, sparked a widespread wave of anger and great solidarity with the girls, amid accusations of exposing them to danger.
Tweeters circulated the clip widely, after it was published by the “End the Awakening” account, which is classified as “extreme right-wing” on the X platform, and which is followed by 4 million people, including Trump’s media advisor and two of his sons.
Trump reposted the clip twice, the first without comment and the second while highlighting the original account’s comment, which opened a wide door to controversy about his motives.
Activists divided
The reactions reviewed in the episode (7/9/2026) of the “Shabakat” program were divided between a supporter of Trump’s position, considering the clip to reveal the “lack of integration” of the Somali community, and a strong opponent, describing the post as racist and threatening to the lives of little girls.
Among the supportive opinions, activist Ryan Fournier, one of the founders of the “Students for America” movement, tweeted:
Wake up, America. The president has strongly highlighted a terrifying reality that is happening to us. The hijab is not assimilation, but rather an invasion itself. Mass Islamic immigration must be stopped before we lose our country completely.
My brothers also sympathized with the positions opposing the spread of the hijab in America, and wrote:
When you watch the video for the first time, there is no need to ask which state this school is located in. Yes, it is Minnesota or mini-Somalia
As for activist Jane, she did not hide her fear that publishing this tweet would lead to divisions in American society, so she wrote
This is racism, and racism causes fear, division, and harm, and may lead to murder. As president, you must seek peace, not make matters worse.
As for the American influencer Snake Al-Rais, he strongly attacked Trump, recalling the 160 female students who were killed on the first day of the American attack on Iran in late February. He wrote:
Targeting 160 schoolgirls in Iran was not enough for Trump to come again and complete the scene by targeting kindergarten girls in Minnesota simply because they chose modest clothing?
Although David stressed that he is not in favor of the hijab, he strongly criticized the use of the President of the United States to politicize a kindergarten graduation ceremony, and wrote, saying:
I’m not a supporter of the hijab, but I’m also not a supporter of the president using social media to politicize a kindergarten graduation ceremony no matter what.
The tweets showed that the controversy extended to include political and social dimensions, especially since Minnesota includes the largest concentration of the Somali community in America, numbering 108,000 people.
The figures also revealed that the state’s mosques were subjected to more than 40 attacks during the past three years, which is the highest in the United States.
