The Egyptian Football Association announced today, Wednesday, its approval to renew the contract of Hossam Hassan, coach of the national team, after a successful campaign in the World Cup, as the Pharaohs achieved the first victory in their history in the finals.
Hassan led Egypt to achieve its first victory in the World Cup in the group stage, before exiting in the round of 16 after a dramatic loss near the end 3-2 to defending champion Argentina.

He said in a statement, “Hani Abu Raida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, announced the approval of the Federation’s Board of Directors to renew the contract with Hossam Hassan, the technical director of the first national team, and Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, within the framework of the Council’s keenness to complete the technical project for the national team, and to build on the historical achievements of Egyptian football during the past period.”
The President of the Federation explained that the Board of Directors will complete the procedures for approving and renewing the contract during its next meeting, immediately after the arrival of the national team delegation to the homeland.
The Egyptian Football Association did not clarify the duration of the contract, but local reports stated that the new contract will extend until 2030. Hassan had previously explained that he has been working with the national team without a contract since February 2026.
Hassan (59 years old) took over as coach of Egypt in February 2024 and led the team to reach the semi-finals in the 2025 African Cup of Nations, in addition to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in eight years.
After becoming the first Egyptian to participate in the World Cup as a player and coach, the best scorer in Egypt’s history led his country to victory over New Zealand in Group Seven to occupy second place and qualify for the knockout stage for the first time, as it beat Australia on penalties in the round of 32 to face Argentina in search of a seat in the quarter-finals.
But Egypt squandered a 2-0 lead 11 minutes before the end, conceding three goals and leaving the World Cup after its most prominent participation in the finals.
Hassan won 20 matches, lost six times, and tied nine matches during his time with the national team.
