Alfons Freij, 20, leaves Timrå IK.

Winnipeg Jets recall running back.

“I cannot describe in words how much this time meant to me”writes Freij.

Freij signed a three-year contract with the NHL club Winnipeg Jets before last season, and was then loaned to Timrå during the 2025/26 season. He had a successful year there.

Since then, the plan has been to stay at the club for the coming season as well. When Sportbladet spoke to the club’s sporting director Kent “Nubben” Norberg, he was clear.

It is clear that Alfons Freij, who has an NHL contract, will play with you next season?
- Yes, it is.

“Has meant everything to me”

Now the Winnipeg Jets activate their clause with the right to recall Freij at any time. Timrå confirms the move on its website.

– We look over the market all the time, but it has to fit both sportingly and financially. We have seven slopes, but if we find a good fit we will of course look into it. At the same time, I want to wish Alfons the best of luck in his continued career, says Kent Norberg on the SHL club’s website.

In a post on Instagram, the 20-year-old says goodbye to Medelpadklubben.

“Putting on the Timrå jersey has been an honor and being part of this family has meant everything to me.” he writes.

Alfons Freij played a key role when the Junior Crowns took JVM gold earlier this year.
