Fifa initiates an investigation
Youtube star IShowSpeed has reportedly been subjected to racist attacks during a World Cup match.
Fifa has now launched an investigation.
“These actions have no place in football”, signed by the association X.
IShowSpeed’s real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr. and has over 100 million followers across her social media.
The 21-year-old has broadcast live during several World Cup matches and it was in the match between Argentina and Cape Verde on July 3 that he was allegedly subjected to racism.
In the video from his own broadcast, an Argentine supporter can be seen shouting at the YouTube star at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It is not entirely clear what is being said, but according to information, the supporter made racist remarks.
“Condemns racism, hatred and discrimination”
“FIFA condemns in the strongest possible way racism, hatred and discrimination in all forms. These acts have no place in football, at the World Cup or anywhere in society.”, writes Fifa in a statement.
According to the union, an investigation into the incident was launched as soon as they heard that it had occurred.
“The WC is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and societies from all over the world, and anyone who acts in a way that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.” the statement continues.
Argentina won the match 3–2. IShowSpeed itself has not commented on the incident.
