Peekaboo!

When Playstation made a comeback on X after a five-day absence, they were met by a storm.

“We want to own our games,” writes user JCHIP with 62,000 likes and 1,800 retweets.

Playstation has been laying low with its social media since the announcement that they completely end physical games in 2028.

Normally they publish posts every day but now nothing new has been seen for five days.

The announcement was met with strong criticism, not least on Sony’s various platforms bombarded with angry messages.

Now that Playstation is leaving the radio shadow with a post touting the new wireless Flexstrike controller, the reactions have been pretty much exclusively angry comments about the new strategy.

A large part of the criticism is also about Sony sticking its head in the sand and not responding to the criticism. A petition calling for the company to reverse the decision has already gathered over 175,000 signatures.

Two posts and a Doom retweet have since been published, where the criticism is also visible.

Some support for Sony’s side exists, barely noticeable, and is far from as tone-setting.

The announcement came at the same time as the company told that they are shutting down the digital stores for PS3 and Vita, deleting over 500 movies from the Playstation library, which thus affects customers who bought one or some of the movies.

However, the announcement put investors in a good mood, Sony’s stock rose last week.

According to Sony’s figures, 85 percent of today’s game sales are digital and the share of physical sales, i.e. 15 percent, has been steadily reduced.
