On Saturday, accounts on social media published video clips that showed a robot clashing with a person inside a closed office, and directing several blows at him, in a scene that sparked widespread interaction and opened the door to questions about the truth of what happened.

Date data recorded on surveillance camera recordings showed that the incident dates back to June 26, but it did not achieve wide spread until yesterday, Saturday, when the clips began to spread extensively across platforms – especially on Instagram – prompting thousands of users to recirculate them and comment on them.

Clashes, blows and smiles

In the circulating clips, the robot appears to be moving inside an office and then approaching one of the people before striking him several times, while the man tries to take cover and retreat, amid laughter from some of those in the place.

In addition to the scene of the clash, other footage shows a person who appears to be directing the robot during its movements inside the headquarters, which has led many to doubt that what happened is a real incident, suggesting that these scenes are part of a promotional campaign for the robot or pre-prepared representative content.

Robot “Goku”… dancing, fighting, and a possible campaign

Other accounts also circulated clips of the same robot, which was called “Goku”, performing dance moves and wandering around inside the same place, before footage of the clash and beating inside the same office later appeared.

According to information circulated on social media platforms, the incident occurred in the Indonesian city of Jakarta, but so far no official body has issued a statement specifying the exact location or clarifying the circumstances of what happened, nor has any company or institution clearly announced the responsibility for these scenes.

The account bearing the name of the robot published a promotional image in which he announced that he would reveal, tomorrow, Monday, more details about the incident, which had achieved wide spread. One of the clips received 70.4 million views in less than two days.

The image included phrases of a sarcastic nature, including: “I can’t believe the entire Internet watched me,” in reference to the speed of the video’s spread, without any official confirmation of the identity of the account or the extent of its actual connection to the robot that appeared in the circulating clips.

The circulating scenes and the nature of the interaction within the office indicate that the incident may have been part of a promotional campaign for the robot “Goku” or a filmed performance experience. People who have been beaten are shown laughing and showing no signs of panic or trying to call for help.

It also appears in some shots of a person directing the robot as it moves inside the place. Despite these indicators, the absence of any official clarification so far about the nature of the incident or the purpose of these clips leaves the door open to interpretations, awaiting what will be revealed in the upcoming announcement.
