Lexi Minetree has taken over the “pink torch” from Reese Witherspoon.

And those are big shoes to fill.

– In the end, what Reese did was absolutely amazing, and it cannot be recreated, says Lexi Minetree about playing Elle Woods in the new series “Elle”.

The classic film “Legally blonde”, med Reese Witherspoon starring Elle Woods, turns 25 this year. Since the success, there have been two more sequels. And now the “Legally blonde” universe has been expanded even further. Last Wednesday, the series “Elle” premiered on Prime Video.

But this time we get to follow the main character Elle Wood’s life before the events that take place in the original film. In the prequel series, Elle moves from the luxury neighborhoods of Bel-Air to Seattle in the middle of the golden age of grunge in the 1990s.

The actor given the honor of reinterpreting the iconic character is the doldis Lexi Minetree.

– I hope that people really love the series and feel a strong connection to it, she tells Aftonbladet.

The support of Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon is the executive producer of the series and has been a major contributor to its creation. It was also she who in February of last year gave Lexi Minetree the news that she got the role.

– She (Witherspoon red’s note) is fantastic. She has been incredibly supportive and has been there all the way. Always easy to get hold of, says Lexi Minetree and continues:

– Considering that she is the one who made this character so iconic, it means a lot that she has had so much trust in me and wanted to pass the pink torch – an expression she herself used – on to me. It feels very special.

But those are big shoes to fill. And Lexi Minetree is aware of that. At the same time, she notes that people are often very different in high school compared to later in life.

– I know that I myself have changed a lot. It was therefore so much fun to explore that side of the character and at the same time put my own stamp on her.

This is why the series is needed: “Positive role model”

She also explains that Reese Witherspoon has given her a lot of freedom and a lot of space to do her own interpretation of Elle Woods.

– In the end, what Reese did was absolutely fantastic, and it cannot be recreated – after all, no one else is Reese Witherspoon. Therefore, I wanted to make Elle Woods my own and portray her based on my own intuition and my own life experiences. I hope that the audience will be able to absorb and identify with this new version of Elle.

Lexi Minetree admits that sequels to classic works can sometimes be hard to justify, but in this case she feels, “Let’s get more Elle in the world.”

– She is such a positive role model, she says.

– Right now, more than ever, when the world looks the way it does, we need someone who sees the best in other people and the best in himself. We need more of that kind of optimism.

Finally: Where would you place “Legally blonde” on your own top list of movies?

– My favorite movie, baby!

“Elle” premiered on Prime Video on July 1.
