Nothing new on the Ukraine front. In recent weeks, very deadly fighting has moved the stakes only marginally, the AFP review shows.
During the month of June, Russia’s invasion forces have both lost and taken Ukrainian land, according to data from the American think tank ISW that AFP has reviewed.
They have taken control of a few tens of square kilometers, then above all in Kharkiv in the northeast. But over the same period, Ukraine’s has pushed them back from an almost equally large area further south, in Zaporizhzhya and Dnipropetrovsk.
Russia’s advancement has clearly slowed down during the year. April was the first month in two and a half years that the attacker lost more ground than it gained. During April and May, they retreated a total of more than 400 square kilometers.
